Register of bonds originally issued to Macalister and Stebbins and surrendered under Act of 1849, 1849-1850.

Register lists bonds surrendered (under an act approved February 10, 1849) which had been originally issued to Charles Macalister and Henry Stebbbins (1841) to pay internal improvement debt interest. Bonds and scrip surrendered by Macalister and Stebbins or their assigneees include Internal Improvement Scrip (issued 1840); Interest Bonds (issued 1841 and 1847); and Illinois and Michigan Canal Bonds (issued 1837, 1839, and 1841). Entries for each surrendered bond usually include bond type; serial number; issue date; principal and interest due amount; state official who signed bond (e.g., Commissioner of Public Works; Governor; State Treasurer; Auditor of Public Accounts) name and title; and individual who surrendered bond.

In 1865 counties and cities were authorized to issue bonds in support of subscriptions to the capital stock of railroad companies or in aid of any public improvement (L. 1865, p. 44).
